Major Drug Bust in Bhopal: Illegal Cough Syrup Factory Uncovered
Significant Operation Against Drug Manufacturing
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug production and trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Madhya Pradesh has exposed an illicit cough syrup manufacturing facility operating from a residential house in the Gandhi Nagar area of Bhopal. During this surprise raid, authorities seized a substantial quantity of narcotic cough syrup, along with manufacturing equipment and packaging materials.
Officials reported that the operation took place in a house located in the Dobara Patel City Colony of Gandhi Nagar. The security forces acted on credible intelligence regarding the illegal production and covert distribution of narcotic cough syrup in the area.
Details of the Raid
According to Rahul Lodha, Deputy Inspector General of STF, the operation commenced around midnight and lasted until approximately 3 AM. The raid was conducted collaboratively by STF personnel and drug enforcement officials. During the search, investigators discovered numerous cartons, bottles, and machines associated with cough syrup production. Allegations suggest that these machines were utilized to manufacture and package a non-licensed cough syrup brand named 'Off Cuff.' Authorities estimate that the value of the seized items and equipment is around ₹1.5 crore.
Arrests Made
The STF has apprehended seven individuals in connection with this case, including three minors. Officials indicated that all suspects are currently being interrogated, and further arrests may occur as the investigation progresses. Samples of the confiscated cough syrup have been sent for laboratory testing to determine its composition and check for any prohibited or controlled substances.
Investigation Insights
Authorities revealed that the STF had been receiving information about the illegal manufacturing and distribution of narcotic cough syrup in the Gandhi Nagar area for some time. Based on this intelligence, a specialized operation was planned and executed.
Sources indicated that local police were not informed in advance about the raid. Senior STF officials oversaw the entire operation.
Expanding the Investigation
Investigators are now working to trace the sources of raw materials used in the cough syrup production. They are also identifying the distribution network allegedly involved in supplying this cough syrup. The house where the operation took place is reportedly owned by an individual named Malviya. However, officials have not yet been able to contact the property owner and are investigating whether they had any involvement in the illegal activities. A case has been registered, and legal proceedings are underway. Authorities are also examining whether the seized cough syrup was distributed to other districts and states.
An STF official stated, 'The investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken against all individuals found involved in this illegal trade.'
