Major Drug Bust in Bahraich: Over 8,000 Bottles of Cough Syrup Seized
Significant Drug Seizure in Bahraich
In Bahraich district, a collaborative operation between the drug department and local police led to the discovery of over 8,000 bottles of codeine-laced cough syrup at an illegal warehouse owned by a drug dealer. An official confirmed the details of the operation.
According to the district drug inspector, Vinay Krishna, the raid was conducted on Wednesday based on confidential information. The joint team, comprising officials from the drug department and police from Daragah Sharif and Rupaidiha, targeted the warehouse located in the village of Parsoura, owned by Ajay Kumar Yadav.
Details of the Operation
During the raid, authorities uncovered more than 8,000 bottles of cough syrup stored in boxes. Following the seizure, a case was registered against the accused under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act, leading to his arrest and subsequent imprisonment.
Krishna noted that while Ajay Kumar Yadav possessed a license for drug sales at a different location, he did not have a valid license for the warehouse where the cough syrup was stored.
Previous Drug Trafficking Incidents
Recent Actions Against Drug Trafficking
This incident is not the first of its kind in Bahraich, which is close to the India-Nepal border and has seen ongoing attempts at drug trafficking. Officials revealed that just two days prior, a raid was conducted at an Ayurvedic medicine store in the Rupaidiha area, resulting in the seizure of over 2,000 bottles of codeine cough syrup, and the store operator was also arrested. Police are currently investigating whether there is a connection between these two cases and if there was a plan to smuggle this illegal shipment across the border into Nepal.
