Major Development Initiatives Launched in Nagaland by Union Minister
Significant Infrastructure Boost in Nagaland
Dimapur, Dec 6: On Friday, Union Minister for Communications and DoNER, Jyotiraditya Scindia, announced a substantial investment of Rs 646.39 crore for various development projects in Nagaland, aimed at enhancing the state's infrastructure, connectivity, education, and public services.
The inauguration event took place in Kohima, where Scindia also participated in significant cultural activities at the Hornbill Festival, highlighting the government's commitment to fostering growth in the Northeast region.
Five completed projects from the Power, School Education, and Public Works Departments were inaugurated during the event.
In the Power sector, a newly upgraded 132 kV substation at Nagarjan, Dimapur, which cost Rs 24.46 crore, is anticipated to improve power transformation capacity and ensure a more reliable supply.
In terms of education, Scindia inaugurated the In-Service Teachers Training-cum-Examination Centre, which includes residential facilities and was built at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Additionally, an IT infrastructure upgrade in 190 schools, costing Rs 18.95 crore, aims to enhance learning environments and digital access throughout Nagaland.
The Public Works Department also completed two significant road projects: the Chendang Saddle–Noklak Road upgrade, which cost Rs 45.59 crore, and the enhancement of AT Road from Tsusangra to Impur Junction, including bridge constructions, at a total cost of Rs 93.98 crore.
These initiatives are expected to improve regional connectivity and alleviate transportation challenges in remote areas.
Scindia laid the foundation stones for 11 new projects across various sectors, including Health & Family Welfare, Youth Resources and Sports, IT & Communication, Power, and Public Works.
Notable projects include a multi-speciality hospital in Chumoukedima, costing Rs 58.72 crore, and a 50-bed hospital at the Peren district headquarters valued at Rs 44.65 crore, which will enhance healthcare infrastructure.
Speaking to a public gathering at Tuophema, Scindia expressed admiration for the warmth and cultural richness of Nagaland's people, stating that his brief visit made him feel 'blessed to serve the eight States of the Northeast.'
He emphasized that the region is evolving from being India's last frontier to becoming the first, with immense potential as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
His visit coincided with the Hornbill Festival, where he participated in the traditional stone pulling ceremony at Touphema village, hosted by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Scindia described the ritual as a representation of 'the union of body, mind, soul, heart, and spirit.' Following this, a cultural extravaganza took place at the Touphe Phezou resort, where Rio expressed gratitude to Scindia for his presence at the festival.
On the fifth day of the Hornbill Festival at Kisama, a vibrant display of traditional dances, music, and rituals showcased the rich heritage of Nagaland's tribes, attracting large crowds and highlighting the state's cultural vibrancy.
