Hyderabad Police Bust Counterfeit Currency Gang

Hyderabad: Authorities in Hyderabad have successfully dismantled a significant counterfeit currency operation. The Future City police apprehended four suspects involved in the production of fake Indian currency notes. During the operation, law enforcement seized counterfeit ₹500 notes valued at approximately ₹6.78 crore, along with various tools used for printing, including printers, laptops, and currency cutting machines.

Arrests Made on the Highway

According to Police Commissioner Dr. Tarun Joshi, a joint operation was conducted on Sunday by the Abdullapurmet police and the Shadnagar Special Operations Team (SOT). The police stopped a vehicle on National Highway-65 near Ramoji Film City, leading to the arrest of the four suspects and the recovery of a large quantity of counterfeit notes.

Counterfeit Currency Factory Discovered

Investigations revealed that the suspects were operating a counterfeit currency printing facility from a rented house in the outskirts of Kuntloor. The premises were equipped with a dedicated printing unit where the fake ₹500 notes were produced.

Authorities confiscated printers, laptops, currency cutting machines, and other equipment used in the production of counterfeit notes. Initial investigations suggest that the suspects had been engaged in this illegal activity for an extended period.

Suspects Used Fake Police Identities

In a shocking twist, police disclosed that the suspects allegedly used fake police identification cards, walkie-talkies, and imitation firearms to intimidate and defraud individuals, posing as law enforcement officers.

Investigation into the Gang's Network

Commissioner Dr. Tarun Joshi stated that a thorough investigation is underway. Authorities are working to determine the source of the equipment used for printing counterfeit notes and the intended distribution plan for the large quantity of fake currency.

Investigative agencies are also exploring potential connections between this gang and larger networks, possibly extending to other states. Police suspect that additional individuals may be involved, and questioning of the arrested suspects is ongoing.
