Major Child Trafficking Ring Exposed in Delhi
Uncovering a Child Trafficking Network
A significant inter-state child trafficking operation has been uncovered in the capital city of Delhi. Investigations by the Delhi police revealed alarming details, indicating that this syndicate has been involved in the trafficking of nearly 30 newborns across various states over the past 18 months. According to police officials, the network of this gang extended across multiple states, exploiting the vulnerabilities of economically disadvantaged families to facilitate the illegal trade of children.
Details of the Trafficking Operations
The investigation disclosed that approximately 30 infants were sold for prices reaching up to 1 million rupees, despite being initially purchased for only 10,000 to 20,000 rupees. New findings indicate that infants and children were acquired from economically challenged families in tribal regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat, and subsequently sold in Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and other states to couples unable to conceive.
Arrests Made and Ongoing Investigations
In connection with this trafficking ring, the Delhi police have apprehended 13 individuals, including alleged traffickers, intermediaries, buyers, and the owner of a hospital, while also rescuing five newborns. Investigators reported that the gang typically purchased children for 10,000 to 20,000 rupees and then forged medical and birth documents to sell them for between 600,000 and 1 million rupees.
Concerns Over Human Trafficking
This revelation has raised serious concerns regarding human trafficking, particularly the safety of newborns. The Delhi police are now actively searching for additional links and accomplices associated with this gang. Authorities suggest that further arrests may occur in the coming days, and the rescued children have been placed under safe care.
