Significant Developments in the Mahadev Betting App Investigation

New Delhi. Indian investigative agencies have achieved another significant milestone in the high-profile Mahadev online betting app case, which involves billions of rupees. Just days after the extradition of the main accused, Saurabh Chandrakar, from Oman, Ravi Uppal, a co-promoter of the app, has been apprehended in Dubai. Informal sources have confirmed Uppal's arrest to Indian authorities, although the UAE officials have yet to provide official confirmation to the Indian government.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are now engaged in legal proceedings to facilitate Ravi Uppal's extradition back to India for further questioning and in-depth investigation. If confirmed officially, this development could mark a significant turning point in the ongoing investigation into the multi-crore illegal online betting network. It is noteworthy that both Ravi Uppal and Saurabh Chandrakar established the 'Mahadev Online Book' betting platform and were operating this entire illegal syndicate from Dubai. They fled India in 2019 and have been named as primary accused in the agencies' charge sheet.

Previously, Ravi Uppal was detained in Dubai in December 2023 based on an Interpol Red Corner Notice but was later released on bail. Since then, there has been no accurate information regarding his whereabouts, and he had challenged the Red Notice against him, claiming that the cases were politically motivated. The Enforcement Directorate is conducting a thorough investigation into the financial mechanisms of this betting syndicate, including the network of fake bank accounts, hawala operators, and allegations of laundering black money through foreign entities.

According to investigators, the Mahadev app operated through franchise-based betting panels and branches across India. These panels collected betting amounts from users, which were then transferred abroad via hawala channels. Recently, the main accused, Saurabh Chandrakar, was extradited from Oman, where he was wanted in several cases by the CBI and ED. With Chandrakar now in India and Uppal's arrest, investigative agencies are set to intensify their efforts to uncover the financial structures of the syndicate and its associates.
