Major Blow to Maoist Operations: Security Forces Seize Explosives in Chhattisgarh
Significant Operation Against Maoists
Raipur: In a decisive action against Maoist insurgency, security forces have successfully dismantled a dangerous plot by seizing a significant stockpile of explosives and firearms from a hideout located in the remote Dadipani hilly region, part of the Mainpur police jurisdiction in Gariyaband district, Chhattisgarh.
This location, situated around 65 kilometers from the district's main office and near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, was the focus of a carefully orchestrated search operation.
Based on reliable intelligence, officials discovered that members of the Maoist organization’s DGN (District/Divisional Gorilla Network) Division had amassed a considerable amount of weaponry and explosives in this challenging terrain, with plans to ambush security forces and execute IED attacks.
A collaborative team, including Gariyaband’s E-30 unit, Special Task Force (STF) 207, CoBRA 16 Battalion, Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF), and the 65th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), conducted the extensive operation from December 19 to 20.
Following strict safety measures, the forces navigated through dense forests and rocky landscapes in the Dadipani hills.
The search revealed a disturbing cache hidden in plastic barrels and steel containers among the rocks.
The items recovered comprised one company-manufactured mortar, a muzzle-loading gun, 22 mortar shells, 150 detonators, 18 arrow bombs, and various components necessary for creating improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This timely intervention effectively thwarted the Maoists' intentions to harm security personnel patrolling the sensitive border area.
Officials hailed this recovery as a significant victory in the ongoing anti-Left Wing Extremism (LWE) operations, attributing the success to diligent intelligence work and coordinated efforts among various forces.
In the aftermath of this operation, search efforts in the nearby regions have been intensified to deter any potential resurgence of Maoist activities and to uncover additional hideouts.
The seized cache highlights the ongoing threat posed by improvised weaponry in Maoist strategies aimed at destabilizing peace and development efforts, emphasizing the persistent challenges of Left-Wing Extremism in the forested areas of Chhattisgarh, even as security forces strive for an LWE-free environment.
