Asset Seizure Under Gangster Act

The district administration in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has confiscated assets worth over ₹23 crore belonging to Ramakant Yadav, a former MP and current MLA from the Samajwadi Party, under the Gangster Act. This action was confirmed by officials on Friday.


Yadav is accused of acquiring this wealth through criminal activities, benefiting both himself and his family. According to authorities, a significant operation was conducted today in Azamgarh under the directives of District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar, involving local police and administrative officials.


The district administration has seized properties valued at ₹23,42,81,400, which were allegedly obtained through illegal means linked to the criminal underworld. Yadav is currently incarcerated in Fatehgarh Jail, facing charges related to a toxic liquor incident.


In February 2022, seven individuals lost their lives due to the consumption of poisonous alcohol in the Aharoula police station area of Azamgarh, with many others falling seriously ill. Yadav was arrested in connection with this case and remains in custody at Fatehgarh Jail. The administration has provided a detailed account of Yadav's assets.
