Major Anti-Encroachment Drive in Jaipur for Road Expansion
Significant Action by Jaipur Development Authority
On Monday, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) initiated a substantial anti-encroachment operation in a key area of the city aimed at road widening. This operation involves the removal of five religious structures, including two temples and a mosque, that fall within the designated road limits. To prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order, the administration has implemented strict security measures, deploying a large police force and temporarily suspending mobile internet services.
Security Measures and Internet Suspension
Officials reported that mobile internet services have been suspended in various parts of the city as a precautionary measure. Approximately 3,000 police personnel have been stationed in the Jagatpura area near the Nandpuri underpass to ensure public safety. The road adjacent to the railway line is set to be widened to 80 feet as part of this initiative.
Details of the Operation
According to officials, the five religious structures targeted for removal include one mosque, two temples, one satsang hall, and one shrine. An official directive states that mobile internet services will remain suspended from midnight Sunday to midnight Monday in the Jaipur North and Jaipur East police districts. Additionally, services for sending bulk SMS and MMS have been halted, and access to social media platforms will be restricted, although regular phone call services will continue.
Official Statements on the Operation
Divisional Commissioner V. Shravan Kumar explained that the decision to suspend internet and social media services aims to prevent misuse of these platforms, curb rumors, and maintain law and order. Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal warned that any individual attempting to disrupt communal harmony or spread inflammatory content through social media or other digital platforms during the operation would face strict legal action.
Movement Restrictions and Surveillance
Authorities have also imposed restrictions on public movement in certain areas, with drone surveillance being utilized to monitor the situation. They noted that electricity supply in the surrounding areas has been temporarily cut off as part of the security arrangements.
