Major Administrative Shake-Up at Ayodhya's Ram Temple Trust
Significant Changes in Trust Leadership
The 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust' overseeing the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya is currently facing a major administrative upheaval. In a dramatic turn of events, the trust has accepted the resignations of its General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra. This decision follows serious allegations of donation misappropriation that have recently come to light, forcing both prominent figures to step down. To manage the crisis and restore order, the trust has appointed retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Krishna Mohan as the interim General Secretary. He will now oversee the daily operations and administrative functions of the Ram Temple.
Appointment of Krishna Mohan
Krishna Mohan, who was recently appointed as a trustee by unanimous decision, hails from Chandrapur village in the Shahabad assembly constituency of Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh. A former IFS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, he has been actively involved in social work since retiring from government service and currently resides in Hardoi city. His inclusion as a trustee was a unanimous decision by the members.
Oversight of Daily Operations
As the interim General Secretary, Krishna Mohan will manage the trust's daily operations until a permanent appointment is made. His appointment ensures continued representation of the Dalit community within the trust, as he replaces Kameshwar Choupal, who represented this community before his passing. The trust views Krishna Mohan's inclusion as a significant step towards strengthening its governance and ensuring broad social representation.
Addressing Recent Events
Upon taking charge, Krishna Mohan expressed his commitment to serving as the acting General Secretary until a permanent solution is found. He emphasized that the trust will ensure that anyone found guilty in the ongoing investigation will face legal consequences. "We are all deeply saddened by what has transpired. These events have also caused distress among the devotees of Lord Ram," he stated. Acknowledging the shortcomings in the trust's management and operations, he noted that some individuals have exploited these weaknesses. His primary focus will be to identify and rectify these issues while strengthening administrative processes to prevent future occurrences. He also recognized the negative impact this controversy has had on the trust's public image and the trust of devotees and the general public.
Upcoming Meeting Scheduled
Following a meeting that lasted over two hours, Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj, the treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, announced that another meeting will be held on July 22 to discuss the final report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT). He expressed that everyone is hurt and saddened by the situation. "The magnitude of the theft is secondary; our primary concern is that such an environment was allowed to develop. However, the truth is before us, and it is our duty to address it. Therefore, we gathered today in a state of deep contemplation and sorrow. Given the current circumstances, a serious situation has arisen: our General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra have resigned. Champat Rai, who was serving as General Secretary, was very distressed; he felt it was inappropriate to remain in his position until justice is fully served, meaning until the guilty are apprehended and punished. Motivated by this sentiment, he submitted his resignation, which is not a matter we could simply accept or reject. According to the trust's constitution, a resignation is deemed accepted as soon as it is submitted.
