Naxalism on the Brink of Defeat in Gadchiroli

In Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, the threat of Naxalism is reportedly nearing its end, according to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He emphasized that the state government is committed to taking decisive action against those who support Naxalites. During a press briefing, Shinde stated that Naxalism is almost eradicated in Gadchiroli, and our Home Minister has set a target to eliminate it by 2026, a goal we are actively pursuing.


Decisive Actions Against Supporters

Eknath Shinde reiterated that measures will be taken against individuals backing Naxalism, asserting that the government aims to completely eradicate this issue in Maharashtra. He noted that areas previously affected by Naxalism are now witnessing development, and by eliminating this threat, we are fostering growth. Earlier, an official statement revealed that on June 27, the Gadchiroli police, in collaboration with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), apprehended a highly wanted Maoist commander during a joint operation. The arrested individual, known as Uncle or Mannu Sulge Pallo, had a bounty of ₹6 lakh set by the Maharashtra government.


Significant Arrests Highlight Anti-Naxal Operations

With this recent arrest, the total number of Maoists captured by Gadchiroli police since January 2022 has reached 104, showcasing the effectiveness of ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the region. Previously, Union Home Minister Amit Shah remarked that Naxalism has been a significant disaster for impoverished tribal areas, resulting in nearly 40,000 deaths and numerous disabilities over the past 35 years.
