Maharashtra's Dadaso Pujari Shines at Khelo India Beach Games 2026
Dadaso Pujari's Journey in Kabaddi
Emerging from the Khelo India initiative, Dadaso Shivaji Pujari, a promising kabaddi player from Maharashtra, has returned to the Khelo India Beach Games 2026 in Diu, marking a significant milestone in his career that began with this very platform.
Dadaso's ascent began at the Khelo India Youth Games in Panchkula, where he showcased his skills as a dependable right-corner defender, leading to three seasons with Puneri Paltan. Now, he is leveraging that experience as he competes on the sandy shores of Ghoghla Beach.
From Humble Origins to Professional Success
Dadaso's story exemplifies how the Khelo India framework is nurturing Indian kabaddi talent at elite levels, while also reinforcing the sport through players who return after gaining valuable experience.
Born in Kolhapur, Dadaso's journey into professional kabaddi began at the Khelo India Youth Games, where his impressive performances earned him a spot with Puneri Paltan. He advanced through the Yuva Paltan system and played across three seasons in the Pro Kabaddi League. For Dadaso, whose father is a farmer and who grew up with limited resources, this journey is deeply meaningful. He started playing kabaddi at 12, inspired by friends in his village. His path from school competitions to representing Maharashtra and securing a professional contract was paved by the structured opportunities offered by Khelo India. "I owe my success to Khelo India," Dadaso remarked in an interview. "The Youth Games in Panchkula opened the door to the Pro Kabaddi League for me. Even after reaching that level, I feel a strong connection to Khelo India. Coming back to this platform feels like returning home."
Facing New Challenges in Beach Kabaddi
Dadaso, recognized for his defensive skills, is now embracing the unique challenges of beach kabaddi. "Playing on sand is a different experience compared to the mat. Movement is slower, maintaining balance is more difficult, and every tackle demands extra effort. However, these challenges contribute to my growth as a player," he explained.
Pro Kabaddi League Players Enhance Khelo India Events
Dadaso is not the only one returning to the Khelo India platform. During the ongoing Khelo India Beach Games in Diu, approximately seven players with Pro Kabaddi League experience are representing their states. Their involvement highlights the talent pool cultivated by the Khelo India Scheme, which has significantly enriched the Pro Kabaddi League.
These players are now bringing their expertise back to the national developmental platform, enhancing the quality and visibility of the Khelo India Beach Games. The influence of Pro Kabaddi League players extends beyond the Beach Games; at the recent Khelo India University Games in Jaipur, nearly 25 players with Pro Kabaddi League backgrounds represented their universities. This trend illustrates how the Khelo India Scheme has bolstered the professional league while ensuring elite players remain engaged with and uplift national-level competitions.
A Positive Cycle for Indian Kabaddi
Dadaso emphasizes the importance of this cycle for the future of Indian kabaddi. "Khelo India provides young athletes with exposure, confidence, and clear guidance. When players return after competing professionally, the competition level rises, inspiring younger players," he stated.
