Maharashtra's Anika Dubey Wins Silver at Asian Junior Squash Championships
Anika Dubey's Remarkable Achievement
Sixteen-year-old Anika Dubey from Maharashtra secured a silver medal at the Asian Junior Squash Championships held in China on Tuesday, finishing as the runner-up among the continent's top junior players. Known as the 'Golden Girl of Pune,' Anika previously earned an Asian medal at the age of 14. Now, two years later, she has firmly established herself among Asia's elite junior athletes, as highlighted in a recent press release.
A Comprehensive Athlete Development Program
Anika's success is part of a broader athlete development initiative facilitated by the Chance2Sports Foundation Program, supported by SportsSkill. The championships also featured two other athletes from this program, Vasundhara Nangare and Akanksha Gupta, marking a significant representation of three players from a single development ecosystem at Asia's leading junior squash event. This ecosystem was developed by SportsSkill co-founders Abhinav Sinha and Chetan Desai, who integrate elite sports experience with long-term development strategies focusing on recovery, conditioning, movement quality, injury prevention, and mental resilience.
Insights from Co-Founders on Holistic Training
"Working closely with champions over the years reveals that recovery, movement quality, conditioning, and discipline are just as crucial as time spent on the court. Anika exemplifies this principle. Her silver medal is not merely a personal milestone; it signifies the potential of structured, holistic development," stated Abhinav Sinha, a multiple-time national champion and co-founder of SportsSkill.
"Having been involved in sports for nearly 55 years, I can confidently say that the achievements of this generation of athletes are truly remarkable. Anika's silver medal is the culmination of years of consistent effort—both on and off the court, as well as mental preparation. This is the foundation upon which true champions are built," remarked Chetan Desai, a veteran tennis champion and co-founder of SportsSkill.
Support from the Kanga Kids Program
Special recognition is due to the Kanga Kids Program, established in memory of the late Noshir Kanga by his wife, Deborah Kanga. This program has supported all three athletes throughout their formative years over the past 3-4 years. Noshir was a dedicated squash enthusiast who regularly played at CCI alongside Naval Pandole, who is now one of the chief mentors and staunch supporters of the Chance2Sports initiative. Their support has been vital in providing these athletes with coaching access, tournament exposure, and long-term development assistance.
