Maharashtra Minister Launches Controversial Job Portal 'Call Hindu Jobs'

Introduction of 'Call Hindu Jobs'
Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a minister in Maharashtra, has recently launched a digital employment platform called 'Call Hindu Jobs'.
Currently, the website is not yet operational.
This initiative was developed by Vishal Durafe, who is associated with the Hindu Jagran Manch and previously served as a leader in the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, according to reports.
The Hindu Jagran Manch is known for its affiliation with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which is the ideological parent of the BJP.
Minister's Remarks on Employment
During the inauguration on Wednesday, Lodha, who oversees skill development and entrepreneurship in the BJP-led state government, expressed that the platform aims to assist young individuals in securing jobs and learning about self-employment.
He stated, “It will also provide training in marketing.” Lodha emphasized the need for large-scale employment in Maharashtra and praised Durafe's efforts in this regard.
Controversy Surrounding the Initiative
When questioned about the appropriateness of promoting a platform exclusively for Hindus, Lodha defended the initiative, suggesting that there is nothing wrong with constructive efforts aimed at the Hindu community.
He added, “If another community initiates a similar project, the government will support them too.”
Lodha further mentioned that the app is accessible to everyone, regardless of community, stating, “The portal is named for Hindus out of sentiment, but anyone in Maharashtra can use it.”
Future Plans for the Portal
Durafe indicated that the portal's goal is to provide job opportunities specifically for Hindus and to supply skilled labor to businesses within the community.
He also mentioned plans to expand the portal to include sections on self-employment, e-commerce, and marriage.
When asked if the platform would be exclusive to Hindus for job offerings, Durafe clarified, “It is not necessary.”
Political Criticism
Mahesh Tapase, a spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party, criticized Lodha for endorsing a platform that appears to cater to a single community.
He remarked, “Ministers must operate within the framework of the Constitution, which guarantees equal opportunities for all.” Tapase raised concerns about whether Lodha comprehends his responsibilities as a minister when supporting a communal job portal.
