Maharashtra Deputy CM Addresses Allegations of Donations Theft at Ayodhya Temple
Concerns Over Alleged Donation Theft at Ayodhya Temple
The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, expressed that the recent allegations regarding the theft of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple have caused significant distress among devotees and followers. Speaking on the final day of the monsoon session in the Legislative Council, he assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty in this matter. He emphasized that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would not spare any wrongdoers.
Commitment to Transparency in Temple Donations
Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena, asserted that there can be no tolerance for any irregularities in the management of donations received by the grand Ram Temple, which is set to be inaugurated in January 2024. Responding to the opposition's 'last week proposal', he launched a sharp attack on rival Shiv Sena (UBT). Without naming former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, he accused those criticizing the alleged theft at the Ayodhya temple of having previously aided in the looting of one of the country's wealthiest temples, Siddhivinayak.
Questioning Past Government Actions
Shinde raised questions about why the previous government did not order an investigation when the donation box at the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai was reportedly 'looted'. His comments were clearly directed at the government led by Uddhav Thackeray. He further remarked that Hindutva is not something that can be casually changed like a T-shirt.
Reactions from the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust
Following Shinde's statements in the Legislative Council, Aadesh Bandekar, a prominent Marathi actor and former president of the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, responded. Having previously been associated with the undivided Shiv Sena, Bandekar stated that if anyone is found guilty of any wrongdoing in this matter, they should be hanged right in front of the temple.
