In response to rampant rumors about a complete lockdown in Maharashtra due to fuel shortages, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a strong warning on Friday. He emphasized that there will be no lockdown in the state and that strict action will be taken against those spreading such misinformation.

Fadnavis Addresses Lockdown Concerns

Fadnavis stated that individuals disseminating these rumors would face severe consequences. He mentioned that criminal action would be pursued against those sharing false news on social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp. The Chief Minister's warning comes as long queues were observed at petrol stations and LPG booking centers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), amid fears of a lockdown. He reiterated that the central government has already confirmed that no lockdown will be imposed, particularly in Maharashtra.

No Tolerance for Misinformation: CM Fadnavis

The Chief Minister further declared that those spreading lockdown rumors would not be spared. He urged the public to avoid crowding at petrol stations, assuring them that there is an adequate supply of petrol and diesel in the country. Fadnavis made it clear that people should refrain from spreading or forwarding rumors. His statement came at a time when panic over fuel shortages was escalating in Mumbai and neighboring districts such as Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. A report from Mumbra in Thane indicated that a young man was detained after a fake video claiming a strict lockdown was circulated, causing widespread fear among residents.
