Maharashtra CM Vows to Suppress Agendas of JNU Protesters

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made headlines with his declaration to suppress the intentions of protesters linked to Sharjeel Imam from JNU. This statement follows the Supreme Court's refusal to grant bail to Imam and Umar Khalid in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots, which resulted in significant casualties. The protests at JNU have ignited further controversy, particularly due to slogans targeting high-profile political figures. Fadnavis's remarks highlight the ongoing tensions surrounding these issues and the government's stance on dissent.

Maharashtra CM Vows to Suppress Agendas of JNU Protesters

Controversial Remarks by Maharashtra Chief Minister

Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Tuesday that the intentions of the offspring of Sharjeel Imam, who emerged from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), will be crushed. This statement comes in light of the recent protests at JNU that have sparked controversy.

The Supreme Court denied bail on Monday to activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in connection with the conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots. These riots erupted in February 2020 during widespread protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), resulting in 53 fatalities and over 700 injuries.

The protests at JNU, triggered by the denial of bail to Khalid and Imam, have led to further disputes, particularly as offensive slogans were reportedly directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

In response to a question regarding the slogans raised at JNU, Fadnavis asserted, 'We will crush the intentions of these offspring of Sharjeel Imam born in JNU. We will put an end to such agendas.'
