Strengthening Security at the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh Border
Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, recently visited the Kawande police station located at the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border. This police station was established by the Maharashtra police in March of this year. Fadnavis highlighted that Kawande is the first village encountered by individuals coming from Chhattisgarh. The nearby Abujhmad forest had previously been inaccessible to the administration. However, the establishment of this police station has not only enhanced police presence but has also addressed security deficiencies in the area. Additionally, a 4G tower has been installed here, allowing the police to provide security and facilitate the delivery of government schemes, thereby fostering trust among the local population.
Commitment to Eradicate Naxalism by 2026
Regarding the timeline for eradicating Naxalism, Fadnavis stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has committed to making the country free from Naxalism by March 2026. He noted that significant progress has been made in Maharashtra, which is now in the final stages of this initiative. However, he pointed out that large-scale recruitment in Chhattisgarh has allowed Maoists to continue their activities in Maharashtra. With the new government in Chhattisgarh collaborating with the central government, the grip of Maoists is reportedly weakening. Fadnavis expressed confidence that soon security gaps will be filled, police presence will increase, and the target will be achieved by March 2026.
Addressing Urban Maoism and Environmental Initiatives
The BJP leader also acknowledged the potential rise of urban Maoists as Naxalism in the forests diminishes. He emphasized the need to confront this challenge, as urban Maoists aim to discredit institutions and create chaos in the country. Fadnavis assured that the fight against this threat will continue. Furthermore, he announced that the state government has set a goal to plant 10 crore trees this year. During a review meeting for the 'Green Maharashtra, Prosperous Maharashtra' tree plantation campaign held on the eve of World Environment Day, he stressed the importance of making tree planting a public movement.
