Maharashtra CM Praises Indian Cricket Team for T20 World Cup Triumph
Celebrating India's T20 World Cup Victory
Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, extended his congratulations to the Indian cricket team for their remarkable achievement in winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The final match, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, saw India triumph over New Zealand.
Fadnavis announced that the Maharashtra government plans to introduce a resolution in both the legislative assembly and council to honor Team India. He expressed his admiration for the team's performance, particularly highlighting the contributions of Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav.
"I commend Team India for their victory against New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and the outstanding performance of Sanju Samson, especially in the last three matches, showcased India's prowess. We will propose a resolution in the legislative assembly and council to celebrate this achievement," stated Fadnavis during a press interaction on Monday.
India's Historic Win
India secured a commanding victory over New Zealand by 96 runs, successfully defending their T20 World Cup title. This win marks a historic moment as India becomes the first team to clinch the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to achieve back-to-back titles following their 2024 victory, and the first to lift the trophy three times (2007, 2024, and 2026).
Outstanding Batting Performance
In the final match, New Zealand opted to field first after winning the toss. However, Abhishek Sharma made a spectacular comeback, scoring a record-breaking fifty (52 runs off 21 balls, including six fours and three sixes). His partnership with Sanju Samson, which yielded 98 runs, proved crucial for India. Samson later formed a century partnership with Ishan Kishan, who scored 54 runs off 25 balls, propelling India past the 200-run mark by the 16th over. Shivam Dube's late innings contribution of 26 runs off just eight balls helped India reach a total of 255/5, setting a new record for the highest score in T20 World Cup finals. James Neesham was New Zealand's standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 46 runs.
Bowling Excellence Secures Victory
In response to India's formidable total of 256 runs, Indian bowlers Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah played pivotal roles in dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup, reducing them to 72/5. Despite a half-century from Tim Seifert (52 runs off 26 balls), New Zealand struggled to build partnerships. The Kiwis were eventually bowled out for just 159 runs, sealing India's victory.
