Tribute to a Renowned Ecologist

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed his sorrow on Thursday following the death of esteemed ecologist Madhav Gadgil, stating that his contributions will continue to inspire future generations.


In his message of condolence, Fadnavis noted that throughout his six-decade career, Gadgil held numerous prestigious positions but always regarded himself as a 'scientist for the people.'


He emphasized that Gadgil dedicated his entire life to environmental conservation and played a crucial role in raising awareness about ecological sustainability, particularly concerning the biodiversity of the Western Ghats.


Gadgil consistently worked to maintain sensitivity towards biodiversity and enhance public understanding of environmental issues.


The Chief Minister remarked that Gadgil, a son of Maharashtra, gained international recognition for his efforts in environmental protection, and his passing represents a significant loss for the conservation movement.


Fadnavis stated, 'We have lost a wise guide with his departure.' He extended heartfelt condolences to Gadgil's family, admirers, and students. Gadgil passed away in Pune at the age of 83 after battling illness, taking his last breath in a hospital late Wednesday night.
