Maharashtra CM Calls for Reevaluation of Flood Guidelines Post Control Measures

Reassessment of Flood Zones in Maharashtra

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has instructed officials to reassess and redefine flood-related guidelines across the state following the implementation of effective flood control measures.

Fadnavis pointed out that the current demarcations are hindering developmental activities in areas that have not experienced flooding for decades. He stated, “The flood lines of several rivers have become outdated, and despite many of these areas not facing flooding for years, they continue to obstruct development.” The Water Resources Department should conduct a fresh survey and propose revised guidelines after implementing flood control measures.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the outdated flood line demarcations are causing delays in development projects. Therefore, flood control measures should be applied along all riverbanks, and the guidelines related to flood lines need to be redefined. He has directed the Water Resources Department to survey flood lines in areas that have not seen flooding for several years.
