Maharashtra CM's Stance on Doctor Strike

Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, commented on the ongoing strike by homeopathy doctors opposing the government's initiative to register with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). During a press conference on August 6, he emphasized that any protest that disrupts patient care is inappropriate.

Fadnavis stated, "I believe protests should not hinder patient care. Any demonstration that obstructs treatment and relief for patients is unjustifiable. The state government treats all doctors equally, regardless of their medical practice, and does not discriminate among them. Doctors serving in our medical colleges and hospitals are particularly important to us. I want to assure them that the government has no intention of treating them unfairly."

Details of the Strike

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has initiated an indefinite strike across the state in opposition to the government's proposal allowing homeopathy doctors to register with the MMC. MARD announced that emergency and casualty services would remain operational for the first 24 hours, prioritizing patient safety, but all outpatient department (OPD) services, routine operations, and academic activities in government medical college hospitals would be suspended.

This strike has garnered support from various organizations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Maharashtra State Resident Doctors Association (MSRDA), Association of State Medical Interns (ASMI), Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers Group-A (MAGMO), and Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association (MSMTA).
