Madurai Holds Special Prayer for India's T20 World Cup Victory

Special Prayer Held in Madurai

In Madurai, a unique prayer session took place, aimed at invoking blessings for the Indian cricket team ahead of their T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, set for Sunday. This event was hosted at the Sri Maha Periyava Temple in the S.S. Colony area, organized by Anushathin Anugraham.

Prior to the prayer, special rituals known as abhishekams were performed on the idol of Maha Periyava and the silver padukas. These rituals included offerings of turmeric powder, panchagavyam, milk, panchamirtham, honey, ghee, tender coconut water, sacred ash (vibhuti), sandalwood, and various other items. The deity was then adorned with special decorations and a deeparadhana was conducted.

Devotees visiting the temple participated by placing a flex board featuring the Indian cricket team players and offered prayers for India's success in the T20 World Cup final. Many lit lamps and chanted slogans like 'All the Best India.'

T20 World Cup Final: India vs New Zealand

The Indian team, known as the Men in Blue, will face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, entering the match as strong favorites due to their home advantage and recent successes against the Kiwis in ICC tournaments.

Path to the Final

India secured their place in the final by narrowly defeating England in the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, marking their fourth appearance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final, the highest by any team.

New Zealand, led by Mitchell Santner, reached the final after a convincing victory over South Africa in the first semi-final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, with Kiwi opener Finn Allen scoring an unbeaten century.

Head-to-Head and Stakes

Historically, India and New Zealand have clashed five times in the knockout stages of ICC events, with India winning twice and New Zealand three times. However, India has triumphed in the last two knockout encounters, giving them a psychological edge.

As defending champions, India aims to secure the title for a record third time, while New Zealand seeks their first Men's T20 World Cup championship.
