Tiwari's Match-Winning Performance

Madhav Tiwari was awarded the 'Player of the Match' after leading the Delhi Capitals to a thrilling three-wicket victory against the Punjab Kings during the IPL 2026 match held at the HPCA Stadium on Monday. The 22-year-old all-rounder made a significant impact by taking two wickets and scoring an unbeaten 18 runs off just eight balls, helping his team maintain their playoff aspirations.

Tiwari's Reflections on the Game

Following his impressive performance in only his second IPL match, Tiwari shared his thoughts at a press conference, stating, "This is my second year in the IPL, and I feel more acclimated to the environment. The management and senior players have been incredibly supportive, always available for guidance. Now that I am familiar with the setup, I just need to manage my nerves. It's fundamentally a game of bat and ball, and I focused on my basics. I feel fortunate that everything went well today."

Match Highlights

In pursuit of 211 runs, Delhi Capitals faced early challenges at 74/4. However, captain Axar Patel's 56 runs off 33 balls and David Miller's explosive 51 runs off 28 balls helped stabilize the innings, with the duo contributing 64 runs rapidly. Despite losing wickets towards the end, the lower order remained composed. Ashutosh Sharma played a vital role with 24 runs off 10 balls, while Tiwari's unbeaten 18 off 8 and Auqib Nabi's quick 10 off 2 balls ensured DC reached 216/7 in 19 overs, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Earlier, Punjab Kings set a target of 210/5, thanks to a strong start from Priyansh Arya, who scored 56 runs off 33 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh. Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with an unbeaten 59 runs off 36 balls, while Suryansh Shedge added a quick 21 runs. In the bowling department, Mukesh Kumar (1/31 in 4 overs) and Tiwari (2/40 in 4 overs) were standout performers for DC.

Tiwari's Journey and Aspirations

Discussing his partnership with Ashutosh Sharma, Tiwari remarked, "We were clear about what was needed. The game was progressing well, and we were comfortable at the crease. Having played together before, we understand each other well, and the atmosphere was relaxed. We practiced together prior to the IPL as well."

Reflecting on his cricketing journey, Tiwari shared, "I began playing cricket at the age of 13. After changing schools, I played with a leather ball for the first time. My head coach, Amay Khurasiya, a former Indian cricketer, encouraged me to focus on both batting and bowling. Initially, I preferred batting, but I learned the importance of being proficient in both areas. I worked hard on my skills in both disciplines."

Regarding the pitch conditions, Tiwari noted, "It wasn't easy, but maintaining a good length was crucial. I concentrated on that, and fortunately, I managed to take two wickets."

Like many aspiring Indian cricketers, Tiwari dreams of representing Team India. He expressed, "That's my goal. I aim to be the best and recognize that I have much to improve. I hope to learn and contribute significantly to the team."

Points Table Impact

This victory propelled the Delhi Capitals to seventh place in the points table, achieving five wins out of 12 matches. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings faced their fourth consecutive defeat but remained in fourth position.
