Itanagar, July 4: A machete-wielding 19-year-old launched an attack on unsuspecting pedestrians in the C-Sector of Naharlagun on Thursday, injuring two individuals, including a woman. The assault took place around 1:15 PM.


According to Naharlagun Superintendent of Police, Dr. Nyelam Nega, a police unit led by Inspector K Dev, who oversees the Naharlagun Police Station, quickly arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect following a short pursuit on Pachin Road.


The suspect has been named as Daman Nima, a 19-year-old from Nima village, located under the jurisdiction of the Daporijo Police Station in the Upper Subansiri district.


In response to a formal complaint, the Naharlagun Police have initiated two cases under Sections 117(3) and 109(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).


The victims, identified as Nehru Murtem (57) and Hage Anku (54), both residents of C-Sector in Naharlagun, are currently receiving medical care. The Superintendent of Police indicated that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind this unprovoked attack.
