Contract Extension Announcement
Guwahati, June 9: NorthEast United FC has confirmed that midfielder Macarton Nickson will continue with the team, having signed a contract extension that keeps him with the Highlanders until the conclusion of the 2028 season.
Impressive Performance and Contributions
Since joining the first team in the 2023–24 season, Macarton has made a total of 43 appearances across various competitions. He played a crucial role in the 133rd Durand Cup final, coming on at halftime to help secure the club's first major trophy.
During the 2024-25 season, he formed a strong midfield partnership with Mayakkannan and Mohammed Ali Bemammer, effectively controlling the pace and style of play for the Highlanders.
Milestones and Future Prospects
At just 21 years old, Macarton scored his inaugural ISL goal in a 5-0 win against Jamshedpur FC, thrilling the NorthEast supporters. He also made significant contributions in a 3-0 away victory against Mumbai City, netting a goal and providing an assist.
His consistent performances led to his first call-up to the senior India national team for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers against Bangladesh in March 2025. Currently, he is among the 29-member squad for the India U-23 team, preparing for two friendly matches in Tajikistan later this month.
