Ludhiana Lions Secure Semi-Final Spot

The Ludhiana Lions have successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League after a five-wicket victory against the Amritsar Soormas at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. With a target of 177 runs, Ludhiana only required 62 runs to qualify for the semi-finals due to their superior net run rate compared to their opponents. The Lions exceeded expectations by completing the chase in the 19th over, ensuring their place in the final four, as confirmed by a press release from the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.

Soormas Struggle but Post Competitive Total

Batting first, the Amritsar Soormas managed to score 176 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. They faced early challenges when Sahaj Dhawan was dismissed early, but Jashanpreet Singh and Abhay Choudhary steadied the innings with a partnership of 32 runs for the second wicket. Choudhary's aggressive innings of 25 runs off 15 balls was cut short, leading to further setbacks for Amritsar as they lost wickets consistently, slipping to 97 for 5 and risking a low total.

Rahul Kumar stepped up to lead the recovery for Amritsar, forming a crucial partnership with Ishmeet Singh Sandhu, adding 64 runs for the sixth wicket. Rahul played an aggressive role, scoring 57 runs off 36 balls, which provided Amritsar with vital momentum during the middle overs. Although Amritsar lost a few wickets towards the end, they managed to reach a total of 176 runs, setting a target of 177 for Ludhiana.

Chadha's Bowling Excellence

Kartik Chadha was a standout performer with the ball for Ludhiana, taking 2 wickets for 31 runs in four overs. His efforts were instrumental in applying pressure on the Amritsar batsmen and limiting their scoring opportunities in the final overs.

Lions Overcome Early Setbacks to Chase Down Target

The Lions faced a rocky start in their chase, losing two early wickets and finding themselves at 32 for 2, which brought Amritsar back into contention. However, Salil Arora and Karteek Sharma formed a remarkable partnership that shifted the momentum in Ludhiana's favor. The duo attacked the bowling effectively, reducing the required runs to 67 from 60 balls.

Salil was in phenomenal form, scoring 70 runs off just 35 balls, including six sixes and four fours. Karteek provided solid support, also reaching his half-century as they built a substantial partnership of 120 runs. Although Salil's dismissal gave Amritsar a glimmer of hope, Ludhiana maintained control throughout the chase.

Karteek continued to lead the charge, scoring 56 runs off 40 balls before his dismissal, leaving the Lions needing just 9 runs from 19 balls. Despite Krish Bhagat's quick dismissal while attempting a big shot, Ludhiana completed the chase in the 19th over, securing a five-wicket victory at the I.S. Bindra Stadium, a venue known for hosting international matches.
