Inflation Hits Consumers as LPG Prices Increase

As November begins, consumers are facing the brunt of rising inflation, particularly with the recent hike in LPG cylinder prices just before Diwali. The new rates took effect on November 1, impacting several major cities across the country.

Notably, the increase applies to the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders, which could significantly affect hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and other commercial establishments. This rise in costs may lead to higher expenses for businesses during the festive season.

Third Consecutive Month of Price Increases

Oil companies have raised the prices of commercial LPG cylinders for the third month in a row. According to the new rates effective from November 1, 2026, the cost of a 19 kg commercial cylinder in Delhi has increased by ₹10, bringing it to ₹2,820. In Mumbai, the price has also risen by ₹10 to ₹2,774.50.

In Kolkata, the cost has gone up by ₹10 to ₹2,964, while in Chennai, it has increased by ₹11.50, now priced at ₹2,994.50. Bengaluru has seen a similar rise, with the cylinder now costing ₹2,908 after a ₹10 increase.

No Change in Domestic LPG Prices

Amidst the rising costs of commercial cylinders, domestic consumers can find some relief as there has been no change in the prices of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders. As of November 1, the price remains unchanged, with Delhi's domestic cylinder priced at ₹942 and Mumbai's at ₹941.50. In Kolkata, the price is ₹968, while in Chennai, it stands at ₹957.50.

Impact on Hospitality Sector

The increase in commercial gas cylinder prices is likely to raise operational costs for hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and catering businesses. With the festive season leading to a surge in demand for food and beverages, this price hike could significantly affect the expenses of these businesses.

However, domestic consumers are currently insulated from these changes, as there has been no adjustment in domestic cylinder prices. It remains to be seen how the increased costs of commercial gas will influence the prices of food and beverages in hotels and restaurants.
