Long-Lost Daughter Rescued After 20 Years: A Heartwarming Story
Rescue of a Missing Girl After Two Decades
Biswanath Chariali, Jan 11: A remarkable effort by a non-profit organization, the District Community Development Programme (DCDP), has led to the rescue of a young woman who had been missing for over 20 years. The woman, who disappeared from Gohpur at the age of seven, was found in Dimapur, Nagaland.
The rescued individual has been identified as Manju Mardi, now 31 years old, and the daughter of Krishnaram and Nilamani Mardi, who reside in Karibil Bongali within the Behali constituency of Biswanath district.
In 2001, her father took her to Dimapur, where she was left to work as a domestic helper for a local family. Shortly after, the woman who accompanied her passed away, severing all ties with her employer.
Despite facing severe financial hardships, Krishnaram Mardi devoted years to searching for his daughter, even selling livestock in hopes of finding her, but to no avail.
After two decades, the family finally received encouraging news.
Throughout the years, Manju worked for several employers. For the past two years, she had been employed by a man named Victor Murry. After expressing her desire to return home, Murry reached out to various NGOs in Assam.
On December 31, he connected with Kretofil Bhengra, the secretary of DCDP, and shared the names of Manju's parents.
Taking immediate action, Bhengra conducted inquiries and successfully reached out to Krishnaram Mardi. With collaborative efforts, arrangements were made for Manju's return home a few days ago.
She was accompanied back to her home in Karibil by her employer, Victor Murry, along with family members and an official from the Dimapur ADC’s office.
Upon her return, Manju expressed deep gratitude towards DCDP and her employer in Dimapur. Although she initially struggled to recognize her family and neighbors, she has started to remember them gradually. The local community has praised the NGO's initiative.
