Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the newly elected members of the West Bengal Assembly, urging them to maintain democratic traditions and work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people. Speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day orientation program in Kolkata, Birla emphasized the significance of West Bengal's development in realizing the vision of a 'Developed India' by 2047.
Birla highlighted that each legislator represents not only their constituency but also the collective aspirations of the entire state. He encouraged members to rise above political differences and engage in constructive dialogue to strengthen democratic institutions. Referring to West Bengal's historical contributions to social reform movements, the freedom struggle, spirituality, culture, and intellectual renaissance, Birla underscored the state's role in giving a strong voice to the freedom movement through the slogan 'Vande Mataram'. He called upon legislators to preserve and enrich the state's heritage and cultural consciousness.
In his advice to first-time legislators, Birla suggested they continuously learn from senior members, study past assembly proceedings, and enhance their legislative skills. He encouraged the adoption of new ideas and methods in their work. Acknowledging the growing role of technology in governance, Birla stressed the importance of legislators being informed about changes in artificial intelligence and digitization to effectively address new challenges in governance.
