Lok Sabha Sessions Disrupted Again: Opposition Protests Over NEET Paper Leak

Continued Disruptions in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: For the fourth consecutive day, the Lok Sabha faced disruptions as opposition members protested regarding the NEET paper leak scandal, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which led to several adjournments.

When the House reconvened at 2 PM after two prior adjournments, opposition members immediately began chanting slogans.

Chairman Dileep Saikia called on the protesting members to uphold the decorum of the House, emphasizing that such disruptions were inappropriate.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the opposition for imposing conditions and avoiding a discussion on the NEET paper leak matter.

As the opposition continued to press for Pradhan's resignation, Rijiju assured the Lok Sabha that the government was eager to present its perspective during the debate.

He stated that opposition members could speak for as long as necessary and that discussions could extend over two days if needed.

Rijiju also mentioned that the opposition could determine the timing and length of the discussions in both Houses.

He noted that the government had reached out to Congress and other opposition parties to facilitate the debate.

These comments were made after the House reconvened at noon following the first adjournment of the day.

Upon the House's meeting at noon, opposition members again shouted slogans and displayed placards, with many congregating in the Well of the House.

Chairman Dileep Saikia urged the protesting members to return to their seats, reiterating that disrupting proceedings was unacceptable.

With protests persisting, the House was adjourned just 10 minutes after the scheduled laying of papers.

Earlier, during the Question Hour, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to members to allow the House to function, highlighting the significance of this part of the day's agenda.

He stated, "The Question Hour is crucial. Following it, the House is prepared to discuss all matters. I will communicate with the government, which is also open to discussions. I urge all members to engage in the discussions after the Question Hour," Birla remarked.

Prominent opposition figures, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, met with Birla amid ongoing disruptions, advocating for a debate on the NEET paper leak issue.

TMC leaders Saugata Roy and Mahua Moitra were also part of this meeting.
