Lok Sabha Adjourned Amidst Opposition Protests

New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha was forced to adjourn for the day due to intense sloganeering from the Opposition. The session is set to resume at 11 am on Wednesday.

This marked the third adjournment of the day as the uproar from the Opposition benches persisted.

Chairman Dilip Saikia made multiple appeals for MPs to settle down, urging them to uphold the decorum of the House and allow proceedings to proceed under Rule 377. However, these requests were largely ignored as the Opposition continued to disrupt the session.

Ultimately, the House was adjourned for the day.

Earlier, Speaker Om Birla had suspended the session until noon after ongoing disruptions hindered normal operations.

In his appeal to the members, Birla questioned, "Do you not want the House to run?... Everyone will have the opportunity to voice their concerns."

Despite this, the Opposition persisted with their protests, leading to the initial adjournment.

When the House reconvened at noon, the disruptions continued unabated, prompting Sandhya Ray, who was presiding, to announce another adjournment after repeated calls for order went unheeded.

Despite several requests from the Chair, the Opposition continued their slogan-chanting, resulting in yet another adjournment.

These disruptions echo similar scenes from the opening day of the Monsoon Session on Monday, where repeated adjournments also plagued both Houses of Parliament.

Opposition parties have been demanding discussions on various issues, including examination paper leaks and protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, which have contributed to the interruptions in parliamentary proceedings.
