Lockie Ferguson to Miss Initial Matches of IPL 2026 for Punjab Kings
Lockie Ferguson's IPL Absence
Lockie Ferguson, the fast bowler from New Zealand, is anticipated to miss the beginning of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season while playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS), as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Recently, Ferguson took a brief paternity leave during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup held in India and Sri Lanka, allowing him to spend quality time with his family before rejoining the New Zealand team for the Super Eight phase.
Recent Performance and Upcoming Break
Just nine days after the T20 World Cup final against India in Ahmedabad, Ferguson showcased his skills by taking 3 wickets for 16 runs in a match against Hamilton, helping New Zealand level the series against South Africa in the second T20I.
Following the third T20I at his home ground, Eden Park, Ferguson will take an extended break. He mentioned that the arrival of his newborn son has altered his priorities, emphasizing the importance of being present at home while balancing his professional responsibilities. "Just had a wee son, trying to spend as much time as I can at home and help the wife out," he stated before the third T20I.
Looking Ahead to IPL 2026
The right-arm pacer, recognized for his speed and performance under pressure, is expected to rejoin PBKS later in the IPL 2026 season.
Reflecting on his experience with the national team, Ferguson expressed that playing for New Zealand is a privilege. Despite earlier injury challenges this season, he is pleased to be back in the squad and contributing in front of local fans. "Always a pleasure playing for the Black Caps, really enjoyed my time in India with the group again," he remarked.
Series Update
In the ongoing five-match series, South Africa secured victory in the first T20I by seven wickets, while New Zealand bounced back to win the second match by 68 runs. The third T20I is scheduled to take place at Eden Park on Friday.
