Local Outrage Over Hema Malini's Comments on Proposed Banke Bihari Corridor

Controversy Surrounds Proposed Corridor
Following backlash from local residents and priests regarding her comments on the proposed 'Banke Bihari Corridor', Mathura MP Hema Malini stated on Sunday that an old video is being deliberately circulated to tarnish her reputation.
In a video that has been shared widely on social media, Hema Malini appears to say, 'We will build the corridor, and those opposing it may need to be asked to go elsewhere.'
This statement has sparked anger among various community members. Responding to the viral video, Hema Malini told a news agency over the phone, 'This video is from before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Misinformation is being spread intentionally to create divisions among people.'
She emphasized that the corridor will only be constructed following a Supreme Court order, ensuring the interests of all parties are protected.
The BJP MP remarked, 'Mathura is my place of work. I am continuously striving to improve this city. All the projects we have implemented are designed to safeguard the interests of local residents.'
Hema Malini added, 'I have come here to serve Lord Krishna, and the people of Braj are part of my family. The proposed 'Banke Bihari Corridor' aims to alleviate crowd pressure and enhance facilities for devotees.'
However, local residents, including the Goswami community and shopkeepers, fear displacement, loss of heritage, and changes to the traditional character of Vrindavan.
Priest Gyanendra Kishore Goswami from the Banke Bihari Temple remarked, 'Lord Krishna has his own way of teaching lessons to people.'
He referenced the story of Lord Krishna subduing Indra's pride, suggesting, 'Hema ji should keep this in mind when asking us to leave Braj.'
On Saturday, another priest, Rasik Bihari Goswami, expressed disappointment over Hema Malini's alleged remarks, stating, 'She has never come to speak with those affected by the 'Banke Bihari Corridor' plan, yet she arrogantly tells us to leave.'
He accused her of wanting to construct the corridor for the benefit of a select few wealthy individuals.
Local businessman Anil Gautam also voiced his frustration, saying, 'We elected her three times with the hope that she would work for the benefit of the people of Mathura and Vrindavan, but now she is asking us to leave.'
