Safe Passage of LNG Carrier

On Monday, Opesh Kumar Sharma, the Director of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), announced that the LNG carrier 'Disha', operated by a consortium led by the Shipping Corporation of India, has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz. This vessel is transporting a cargo of 62,370 metric tons of LNG to India, with an expected arrival at the Dahej port in Gujarat on June 18.




Sharma elaborated that the carrier has already passed through the strategic waterway and is on its way to India. The Ministry is in constant coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, shipping companies, and other stakeholders through the Directorate General of Shipping to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian sailors, providing them with necessary assistance.




He also mentioned that since the establishment of the control room, over 12,700 calls and more than 28,000 emails have been managed. In the last 96 hours alone, the control room received a total of 406 calls and 784 emails from maritime personnel, their families, and others associated with the maritime sector.
