The top talents in surfing and stand-up paddling have gathered in Little Andaman for the first-ever Little Andaman Pro 2026, which commenced on April 9. This national Surfing & Stand-Up Paddling (SUP) championship is set to unfold over four days at the renowned Butler Bay. Organized by the Surfing Federation of India (SFI) and fully backed by Andaman & Nicobar Tourism, the event features nearly 100 competitors across various categories, including Men's Open Surfing, Women's Open Surfing, SUP Sprint (Men & Women), and SUP Technical (Men & Women).
Significance of the Event
This championship is particularly significant as it marks the beginning of India's surfing season in a pivotal year for the sport. India is poised to make its debut in surfing at the Asian Games in Japan in 2026. The country has secured qualification slots through impressive performances at recent Asian Surfing Championships, making domestic events like the Little Andaman Pro essential for athlete preparation and building momentum for international competitions.
Key Athletes to Watch
In the men's surfing category, notable competitors include Kishore Kumar, Sivaraj Babu, Srikanth D, and Ramesh Budhial. Kishore Kumar stands out as a top performer, having won a silver medal at the Asian Surfing Championships in Taiwan and being one of the first Indians to reach the semifinals at this level. Sivaraj Babu brings a wealth of experience, while Srikanth D has gained recognition through multiple podium finishes.
