Tragic Incident in Titabor

Family members and locals immediately rushed her to the Titabor Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital.


Jorhat, June 20: A tragic incident occurred in Titabor, Jorhat district, where a schoolgirl lost her life after being struck by lightning on Friday. This marks the second lightning-related fatality in the region within just a week.


The victim has been identified as Priyakshi Gogoi, a resident of Deogharia Grant in Titabor.


Reports indicate that the Class X student had just returned from school and was resting under a tree near her home when the lightning struck, leaving her unconscious.


Her family and nearby locals quickly transported her to the Titabor Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.


“She had just come back from school and was taking a break under a tree when the lightning hit her. Locals rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late,” shared a local resident.


Priyakshi was a student at Mihiram Saikia Higher Secondary School. Her sudden passing has brought sorrow to both her school and the surrounding community.


Earlier in the week, on June 15, Ruma Orang, a worker at the Gohainjan Line of Charaipani Tea Estate, also tragically lost her life due to a lightning strike while on duty.


The occurrence of two fatalities within such a short time frame has raised alarms among residents regarding the heightened danger of lightning strikes during the current period of severe weather.


These heartbreaking events have left the community in mourning and underscore the urgent need for increased awareness and safety measures during thunderstorms.
