Severe Sentence for a Grievous Crime

Jajpur Town: A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Jajpur POCSO Court for the heinous acts of kidnapping, raping, and murdering a minor girl, whose body was later found in a septic tank in 2016.

Judge Bijay Kumar Jena also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Nabakishore Majhi, who hails from Raneswarpur village within the Korei police jurisdiction.

Should he fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional six months in prison, as per the judge's ruling.

The victim, a 17-year-old student at Women’s College in Jajpur Town, was involved in a romantic relationship with Majhi, which her family opposed.

On January 3, 2016, he abducted her and took her to his village, where he allegedly raped her on a school verandah.

To eliminate any evidence, he murdered her by slitting her throat behind the school.

He then concealed her body in the septic tank of the school. The following day, students noticed bloodstains near the tank and alerted their teacher, who contacted the police.

Authorities subsequently recovered the girl's body from the tank.

Her maternal uncle later identified the remains, prompting her brother to file a formal complaint at the Korei police station.

Based on this complaint, police initiated a case (3/2016) and launched an investigation.

During their inquiry, officers discovered the girl's vanity bag, some gold jewelry, her father's ATM card, and her mobile phone at Majhi's residence.

He had also used the ATM card to withdraw Rs 10,000 at Jajpur Road before fleeing to Balasore.

However, he was apprehended on January 7 in Tentulikhunta village under Korei police limits.

Following his arrest, he was presented in court and placed in judicial custody, remaining in Jajpur Sub-Jail as an undertrial.
