Life Imprisonment for Man in Shocking Sacrificial Murder Case

Court Delivers Harsh Sentence in Gruesome Case
Nuapada: In a shocking verdict, a local court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his young nephew, a crime committed in 2019 as part of a black magic ritual aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity.
The convict, Chintamani Majhi from Jadamunda village, was also fined Rs 10,000. If he fails to pay this fine, he will face an additional three months in prison, as stated by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Das.
The incident occurred on August 8, 2019, when Majhi deceived his nephew, Dhanasingh Majhi, into coming to a field under the guise of needing help to cut down a tree. Once there, he attacked the boy from behind with a sharp weapon, killing him instantly. Reports indicate that Majhi had previously performed black magic rituals on the same land to improve crop yields, and this murder was intended as a 'sacrifice'.
Following the crime, a murder charge was filed against Majhi at the Komna police station, leading to his swift arrest and subsequent judicial custody. The court's decision was based on the testimonies of 23 witnesses and a thorough examination of the police investigation, according to Additional Public Prosecutor Kartikeswar Maharana.
