Life Imprisonment for Man Convicted of Rape of Three-Year-Old in Kushinagar
Severe Sentence for Child Sexual Assault
A special POCSO court in Kushinagar has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of a three-year-old girl, an incident that occurred over five years ago. The court also imposed a fine of five lakh rupees under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Assistant District Government Advocates Phoolbadan and Ajay Gupta reported that Additional Sessions Judge Dinesh Kumar declared the accused, Satyendra, guilty, stating that he should not be allowed to live in a civilized society, as he poses a risk of targeting other innocent children.
The court emphasized that an individual committing such a heinous act against a three-year-old deserves the maximum penalty. The prosecution informed the court that on June 23, 2020, the victim's family reported to the Nebua Naurangiya police station that the accused had lured their daughter to his home under the pretense of giving her mangoes. No one was present at his house, where he assaulted the child.
While searching for her daughter, the mother learned from locals that they had seen the girl with Satyendra. When she arrived at his home, she caught him in the act of sexually assaulting her daughter. The accused fled upon her outcry but was later apprehended by the authorities. The court has ordered that 80% of the imposed fine be given to the victim.
