Life Imprisonment for Man Convicted of Digital Rape in Noida School Case
Severe Sentencing for Digital Rape Incident
In a significant ruling, a district court has sentenced Chandidas to life imprisonment for committing digital rape against a three-and-a-half-year-old girl at a prominent school in the Surajpur area of Gautam Buddha Nagar in 2018.
The special public prosecutor revealed that the court also imposed a fine of ₹24,000 on the perpetrator. Additionally, the school has been fined ₹10 lakh for its negligence in handling the situation.
Following the incident, the school management faced allegations of attempting to suppress the case for two days instead of taking immediate action after learning about the crime.
It was reported that the school pressured the child's parents to drop the matter. According to special public prosecutor JP Bhati, the crime occurred while Chandidas was teaching swimming, as he was employed as a lifeguard at the time.
Chandidas hails from West Bengal. Bhati noted that the digital rape incident took place in 2018 involving a girl studying at the private school in Surajpur. The police arrested the accused and presented him in court.
The court subsequently placed him in judicial custody. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a monetary penalty of ₹24,000.
The court also held the private school accountable for gross negligence, ordering it to pay ₹10 lakh within one month from the date of the ruling.
This amount is to be deposited with the District Legal Services Authority and will be provided as compensation to the victim and her family. The term 'digital rape' combines 'digit' and 'rape,' where 'digit' refers to fingers or toes, indicating that such incidents involve the use of fingers or thumbs.
