A 40-year-old woman suffered severe injuries following a leopard attack in the Thachi region of the Seraj Assembly constituency in Mandi district on Thursday evening.

The injured individual, Tikmu Devi, was on her way back to her in-laws' residence from her parental village of Dabanu when the attack occurred. Local sources indicate that the incident took place in a wooded area just 500 meters from her home.

Earlier that day, villagers had reported seeing a leopard resting in a tree nearby, raising alarms among the community. Later that evening, the animal attacked Tikmu Devi as she walked home, dragging her towards the hillside.

Upon hearing her screams, nearby residents rushed to help. However, by the time they arrived, the woman had already been pulled away, leaving only bloodstains at the scene. Fearing that the leopard had taken her into the forest, the villagers quickly organized a search effort.

A large group of locals entered the forest, calling out and searching for the victim. The noise is believed to have scared the leopard, causing it to abandon the woman in a deep gorge before escaping.

Despite the challenging terrain and darkness, the villagers persisted in their rescue efforts and ultimately found the injured woman. She was extracted from the gorge and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This incident has raised alarm among the residents of Thachi and surrounding areas, who have noted an increase in leopard sightings. Villagers are calling on the Forest Department to take swift action to capture the animal and prevent future attacks.

Additionally, they are seeking proper compensation and support for Tikmu Devi and her family. Officials from the Forest Department are expected to evaluate the situation and implement necessary measures in the region.
