Legal Notice Issued to Punjab CM Over Bombing Accusations
Legal Action Against Punjab Chief Minister
On Thursday, Tarun Chugh, the National General Secretary of the BJP, sent a legal notice to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This notice was in response to Mann's claims that the BJP was responsible for the twin bomb blasts in Jalandhar and Amritsar. Chugh demanded that Mann either provide evidence for his allegations or resign from his position. The blasts, which occurred near security establishments in Punjab on Tuesday night, caused widespread panic and drew sharp criticism from opposition parties, who targeted the Mann government over law and order issues.
Details of the Bomb Blasts
Mann accused the BJP of orchestrating the blasts as part of their strategy for the upcoming assembly elections. The first explosion took place around 8 PM outside the Punjab Frontier headquarters of the Border Security Force in Jalandhar, followed by a second blast near an army camp in Amritsar's Khalsa area around 11 PM. Chugh criticized Mann's statements, asserting that the Chief Minister had tarnished the dignity of his office by making baseless accusations against the BJP.
Chugh's Response and Concerns
Speaking to reporters, Chugh explained that legal proceedings were initiated against Mann for criminal defamation, spreading false information, and inciting public unrest. He pointed out that Mann's statements contradicted the stance of the Punjab Police, which indicated involvement from Pakistan's ISI and foreign networks. Chugh questioned whether Mann was prioritizing Punjab's security or providing political cover to anti-national elements.
Political Implications of Mann's Statements
Chugh further stated that on a day when the nation celebrates the valor and courage of its armed forces during the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Mann's attempt to link the BJP with the bombings was not only a political falsehood but also an affront to the mandate and trust of millions of Indians. He emphasized that Mann's remarks were not just defamatory but also perilous, as such irresponsible accusations could foster confusion, distrust, and social unrest in Punjab. No Chief Minister should compromise public order and national security for political gain.
