Family's Stance on Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Urusha Rana, the sister of Hiba Rana, who reportedly faced triple talaq from her husband, stated that the matter is currently in court and that the family will respect whatever decision is made. She mentioned, "This is a family issue, and the court is already hearing the case. We will abide by the court's ruling. She is my youngest sister, married in 2013. I cannot provide much information as this is a personal matter, not political. I am unaware if the triple talaq was indeed given. I urge the media not to sensationalize this issue. We will honor the court's decision." Hiba Rana, daughter of renowned poet Munawwar Rana, has accused her husband, Syed Mohammad Saqib, of expelling her from their home after issuing a triple talaq.

Legal Action Taken Against Alleged Domestic Abuse

Following the allegations, a case of dowry harassment and assault was filed at the Sadatganj police station. Based on Hiba Rana's complaint, her husband and in-laws have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Sections 85, 115(2), 351(2), and 352, as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. The FIR indicates that serious offenses are involved. According to the FIR, Hiba married Syed Saqib on December 19, 2013, following Muslim (Sunni) customs. However, soon after the marriage, she faced harassment over additional dowry demands.

Details of Allegations and Abuse

The FIR further states that during a dispute on April 9, 2025, her husband verbally abused her, issued a triple talaq, and forced her out of their home. It also mentions that Hiba was subjected to severe verbal abuse and physical assault by her husband. When her sister, Ayesha Rana, also known as Tina, visited her at her in-laws' house, Saqib became agitated and attacked her verbally. The FIR claims that during this incident, he pronounced triple talaq to Hiba, forcibly evicted her, and locked her two children in a room. Hiba has alleged that this incident has caused her significant mental trauma and depression.
