Former tennis champion Leander Paes has been assigned X category security by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with CISF personnel deployed for his protection. This decision comes shortly after his recent induction into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has included Paes in its roster of star campaigners for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. He joins a list that features prominent national figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, as well as well-known personalities like Mithun Chakraborty and Kangana Ranaut.
