Call for Action Against Rising Hate Crimes

Senior leaders of the Congress party in Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, expressed their concerns on Monday regarding the murder of Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, in Dehradun. They highlighted that this incident reflects a troubling increase in hatred across the country. Both leaders have called for severe punishment for those responsible.


Angel Chakma, aged 24, was attacked on December 9 by a group of six individuals while he was protesting against racial comments directed at him and his younger brother. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on December 26. The Uttarakhand police reported that initial medical examinations indicated that Chakma suffered fatal injuries to his spine and head during the assault.


Gehlot took to social media to emphasize that this incident is indicative of a disturbing rise in hatred and intolerance within the nation. Pilot added that it is deeply troubling to witness how hate is claiming the lives of innocent individuals.
