Laura Wolvaardt, the captain of the South Africa women's cricket team, has been honored as the ICC Women's Player of the Month for April 2026. This recognition comes after an impressive performance in both ODI and T20I formats. At just 27 years old, Wolvaardt outperformed competitors like Imesha Dulani from Sri Lanka and Brazil's Laura Cardoso, marking her third win of this accolade in seven months, having previously won in October and December 2025.
Outstanding Batting Display
Wolvaardt showcased her batting prowess throughout the month, scoring 138 runs in two ODIs against New Zealand, averaging 69.00. She continued her excellent form in a T20I series against India, where she accumulated 330 runs over five matches, averaging 82.50 with a striking rate of 168.36. Her performance included one century and three half-centuries, contributing to South Africa's 4-1 series triumph ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England and Wales.
Memorable Century Against India
One of her most remarkable performances occurred during the third T20I against India, where she scored 115 runs off just 53 balls in a successful chase of 192 runs. This innings, her third T20I century, included 14 fours and five sixes, achieving a strike rate of 216.98, and led South Africa to a nine-wicket victory.
