Launch of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Enhance Connectivity Between Guwahati and Kolkata
Introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
The Indian Railways is set to launch the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train between Guwahati and Kolkata by the end of this month. This initiative marks a significant advancement in long-distance night travel, aiming to improve connectivity between the northeastern and eastern regions of India. The central government has made extensive preparations for this service, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to flag off the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train from Malda, West Bengal, on January 17.
Service Details and Ticketing
According to official sources, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will be exclusively available for the general public, with no VIP or emergency quotas. Senior railway officials will also not be permitted to travel using railway passes. Only passengers with confirmed tickets will be allowed to board the train, which is expected to significantly reduce waiting lists as only confirmed tickets will be issued. The train will not allow the Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) system, ensuring that passengers will not have to share berths or travel in reclined seats, thus providing a more comfortable journey.
Enhanced Amenities for Passengers
Passengers will receive fully upgraded bedding, including better blankets and covers, which will be of superior quality compared to those used in regular trains. All staff will be in uniform, and local cuisine will be served during the journey. Officials indicated that the train's design and services will reflect India's rich culture. Travelers will benefit from a transparent ticketing system and uniform rules across all classes, ensuring a consistent travel experience.
Train Composition
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will consist of a total of 11 coaches, including five 3AC coaches, four 2AC coaches, and one 1AC coach. In total, there will be 823 berths available, with 611 in 3AC, 188 in 2AC, and 24 in 1AC.
