This anthology was officially launched on the first day of the new year at the fair, garnering interest from both readers and literary aficionados.
It features 40 meticulously chosen short stories from a pool of 547 original tales published over the first decade of Gariyoshi, a prominent Assamese literary magazine that began in October 1993 under the guidance of distinguished writer and journalist Chandra Prasad Saikia.
Gariyoshi was initiated as part of the Sahitya-Prakash project, which has significantly enriched Assam's literary and cultural landscape over the years.
The anthology is organized by the authors' seniority and includes works from celebrated Assamese writers such as Umakanta Sarma, Gobinda Chandra Poira, Syed Abdul Malik, and many others.
Several stories featured in this collection have previously received the prestigious All India Katha Award, and Gariyoshi itself has been recognized with the same honor for publishing these exceptional works.
This anthology is dedicated to the cherished memory of Padma Shri awardee and a prominent figure in Assamese journalism, the late Prafulla Govinda Baruah.
The compilation of Gariyoshir Nirbachita Galpa-1 was overseen by Hiranya Kumar Barman on behalf of Sahitya-Prakash. Readers interested in acquiring the book can find it at The Assam Tribune stall (Stall No. 109, third lane from the right) at the ongoing Assam Book Fair in Khanapara.
