Landslide Incident in Mumbai

Following persistent rainfall in Mumbai, a landslide has resulted in the collapse of several homes. Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the Bhndup (West) area, where heavy downpours have been ongoing. The landslide took place around 7:30 PM near Omega School, close to Sai Niketan CHS in the Khindipada locality, as mud and debris cascaded down from a nearby hill. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, as residents had evacuated their homes prior to the danger being identified. A substantial safety perimeter was established around the approximately fifty-foot-high hill.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that parts of two already evacuated homes were damaged due to the landslide. In response, precautionary measures led to the evacuation of three to four additional nearby residences. Emergency services, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), Mumbai Police, personnel from the S Ward, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were deployed to the scene. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported.

Due to the heavy rainfall, many areas in the city experienced flooding. The Andheri subway was temporarily closed because of water accumulation, leading to traffic being redirected to alternative routes. Minor incidents such as fallen trees and short circuits were reported throughout the city, but there have been no serious injuries or fatalities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more heavy rain and winds reaching up to 50 km/h until July 24. The BMC has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to remain vigilant.
